1/23/2008 - Local Red Cross Seeking Community Partners to Sell Roses for Measles Vaccinations in Africa and South Asia

To increase awareness regarding the need for measles vaccinations in Africa and South Asia, and to raise the necessary funds to save children's lives, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter is seeking community partners to sell 3,500 long-stemmed chocolate roses for $2 each during the weeks surrounding Valentine's Day. Because each measles vaccination costs less than one dollar, there is a potential to save two lives for every rose sold and provide 7,000 children with vaccinations.

1/18/2008 - Red Cross Urges Local Families to Prepare for Home Fires

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter urges all families of the St. Louis region to prepare for and prevent home fires. The number of home fires the Red Cross responds to nationwide is up 10 percent since the year 2000, yet only 26 percent of families have developed and practiced a home fire escape plan according to a May 2006 poll conducted by ORC International on behalf of the Red Cross.

1/16/2008 - American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Responds to House Fires on Pond Hollow Drive in St. Charles, MO

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to three house fires in the 200-block of Pond Hollow Drive in St. Charles on Wednesday morning. Red Cross volunteers provided assistance on the scene and caseworkers are supporting the recovery effort of three people displaced by the fires.

1/3/2008 - American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Responds to House Fire on Oakdale in Uplands Park, MO

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to a house fire in the 3,600-block of Oakdale in Uplands Park, MO on Thursday. Red Cross volunteers provided assistance on the scene and caseworkers are supporting the recovery effort of three people displaced by the fire.

12/18/2007 - Red Cross Presents Lifesaver Community Award to City of Clayton

During a recent onsite award presentation, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented its Lifesaver Community Award to the City of Clayton for training employees and residents in First Aid and CPR on a regular basis, for teaching residents water safety, and for placing emergency equipment onsite throughout its facilities. A Red Cross Celebration Team, comprised of volunteers and staff, took part in the recognition event to celebrate Clayton’s commitment to helping the Red Cross fulfill its mission to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

12/18/2007 - Red Cross Presents Lifesaver Community Award to City of Warrenton

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter recently presented its Lifesaver Community Award to the City of Warrenton for training the public in First Aid and CPR on a regular basis and for placing emergency equipment throughout its facilities. A Red Cross Celebration Team took part in the event to celebrate Warrenton’s exceptional commitment to helping its employees and constituents make the community a safer place for all.

12/18/2007 - Red Cross Presents the Lifesaver Community Award to Edward Jones

Edward Jones recently received the Lifesaver Community Award from the American Red Cross for training its associates in First Aid and CPR on a regular basis, for placing emergency equipment throughout its facilities, and for hosting Red Cross blood drives. A Red Cross Celebration Team took part in the on-site event to celebrate Edward Jones’ efforts to prepare its associates for an emergency situation.

12/17/2007 - Fires and Floods Lead the List of Largest Red Cross Disaster Responses

In a year predicted to be heavy with hurricanes, home fires, wildfires and flooding kept the Red Cross busy helping people whose lives were changed by disasters. Excessive rain in some portions of the country, severe drought in other areas and a lack of major hurricanes changed the traditional disaster response landscape for the American Red Cross in a year that called for more than 230 large scale disaster responses.

12/13/2007 - Six Local American Red Cross Disaster Relief Workers Respond to Ice Storms in St. Joseph, Missouri

In response to widespread power outages resulting from a severe winter storm in St. Joseph, Missouri, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter deployed six local disaster relief workers to support the ongoing Red Cross recovery effort. The local relief workers have accepted deployments that may last as long as two weeks and will specialize in disaster assessment, logistics, sheltering and staffing. There are currently 48 American Red Cross shelters open in the state of Missouri to provide assistance for emergency needs.

12/10/2007 - American Red Cross Presents Lifesaver Awards to Local Heroes

During a ceremony in Creve Coeur today, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented Lifesaver Awards to residents from the St. Louis metropolitan area. A variety of citizens from all walks of life received honors for preparing themselves through training and then reaching out to save a life.

12/7/2007 - Media Advisory: Red Cross Lifesaver Awards to Spotlight St. Louis Area Heroes

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will feature six stories of heroism during a Lifesaver Award ceremony at Chapter Headquarters. The event is designed to recognize local residents for developing skills through training and then reaching out to save a life. A variety of citizens from all walks of life will receive honors – from sisters and teenagers to a teacher and an off-duty firefighter. In addition to these heroes, several of the people whose lives were saved will also attend.

12/7/2007 - Five Local American Red Cross Disaster Relief Workers Respond to Flooding in Oregon

As extensive flooding continues throughout Oregon, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter deployed five local disaster relief workers to support the ongoing Red Cross recovery effort. Local Red Cross staff and volunteers will provide assistance with bulk distribution, community relations, client casework, and information management.

11/21/2007 - American Red Cross Partners with Citi to Thank 40,000 Red Cross Donors During Holiday Season

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, the American Red Cross recently partnered with Citi to personally thank more than 40,000 local Red Cross financial and blood donors. By opening its call center in O'Fallon, MO on Global Community Day and staffing it with volunteers, Citi enabled the Red Cross to place personal phone calls to local supporters who help the community prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies.

11/6/2007 - Red Cross Presents Lifesaver Community Award to AAA

AAA is a champion for emergency preparedness in the community and for its employees and constituents, implementing lifesaving Red Cross training in CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the workplace. In addition, AAA has further prepared for an emergency situation by placing an AED onsite in its corporate facilities. During a recent award presentation, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented its Lifesaver Community Award to AAA in recognition of the corporation's commitment to safety.

10/29/2007 - Red Cross Issues Halloween Safety Tips for Families

As parents and children get ready for Halloween, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter has issued important safety tips to encourage families to make preparedness a top priority during the fun and busy holiday season.
