At 5 p.m. today, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will open two 24-hour emergency shelters in Saint Louis County and Jefferson County to provide safe refuge in the wake of severe flooding in the region.

3/19/2008 - Red Cross Encourages Public to Prepare As Flood Warnings are Issued

As flood warnings are issued throughout the region, American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter disaster relief workers are on standby ready to assist in flood relief efforts as needed; in the meantime the Red Cross encourages the public to prepare for potentially dangerous conditions.

3/12/2008 - Local Red Cross Volunteers Assemble 3,500 Roses to Raise Funds for Measles Vaccinations

Since the beginning of the year, American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter volunteers hand-assembled 3,500 long-stemmed chocolate roses for community partners to sell at $2 each to raise funds for measles vaccinations in Africa and South Asia.

3/4/2008 - President Bush Signs Proclamation Declaring March as National Red Cross Month

President George W. Bush signed a Proclamation declaring March as National Red Cross Month to honor the organization for “leading humanitarian efforts at home and around the world”. The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter offers several programs to aid local business, organizations, individuals and schools on how to prepare for disasters and emergencies including Be Red Cross Ready and the new Red Cross Ready Rating™ Program.

2/28/2008 - American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter Launches First-Of-Its-Kind Emergency Preparedness Program

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter today launched the Red Cross Ready Rating™ Program, a new emergency preparedness program. The Ready Rating Program was launched with the support of the national American Red Cross, Anheuser-Busch, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, St. Louis City, and St. Louis County. The five-step program is designed to help businesses, organizations, and schools become better prepared for emergencies — and revolutionizes the process by making preparedness measurable and visible. Anheuser-Busch was instrumental in launching the program with a donation of $250,000.

2/11/2008 - American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter Receives Funding from the Cardinal Health Foundation

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter is one of 12 Red Cross chapters to receive funding from the Cardinal Health Foundation in support of disaster readiness and emergency response initiatives. The mission of the Red Cross is to provide relief to victims of disasters and to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. This gift from Cardinal Health directly supports the organization's lifesaving mission.

2/8/2008 - American Red Cross Presents Free Automated External Defibrillator and Preparedness Seminars

To aid employees of corporations, members of community groups and organizations, and individuals wanting to learn more about automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and preparedness plans, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will host two free seminars. Participants can choose to attend the three-hour seminar on either February 20 or March 6. Both seminars will be located at the St. Louis Area Chapter Headquarters on 10195 Corporate Square in Creve Coeur with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the seminar beginning at 8:30 a.m.

1/31/2008 - American Red Cross Urges Preparedness for "Deceptive Killers"

With reports of heavy snow expected in the St. Louis Area today, the American Red Cross is urging families to take the following actions now to prepare for hazardous winter weather. Winter storms can be deceptive killers since the majority of winter-related deaths are caused by events related to the heavy snowfall, high winds, and freezing rain that often accompanies them, said Nicole Holtgrefe, director of preparedness and client services for the St. Louis Area Chapter. People can become trapped at home without utilities or other services. Motorists can become stranded in their vehicles. Walking and driving can become hazardous. But people can stay safer if they listen to the advice of local authorities and take action to get prepared ahead of time.

1/29/2008 - American Red Cross Presents Lifesaver Community Award to the YMCA of Greater St. Louis

During an onsite award presentation, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented the Lifesaver Community Award to the YMCA of Greater St. Louis. A Red Cross Celebration Team, comprised of volunteers and staff, took part in the recognition event to celebrate the YMCA’s outstanding commitment to helping communities throughout the St. Louis community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

1/25/2008 - XTRA Lease Receives Lifesaver Community Award from Red Cross

The American Red Cross recently presented its Lifesaver Community Award to XTRA Lease for training its employees in First Aid and CPR on a regular basis and for placing emergency equipment onsite throughout its facilities. To celebrate XTRA Lease’s outstanding commitment to helping its employees and the greater community prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies, a Red Cross Celebration Team took part in the onsite recognition event.

1/23/2008 - American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Responds to Multi-Unit Apartment Fire on Church Road in Centreville

The American Red Cross Metro East Service Center dispatched a Disaster Action Team to a four-unit apartment fire in the 6100-block of Church Road in Centreville on Wednesday morning. Red Cross volunteers provided assistance on the scene and caseworkers are supporting the recovery effort of eight adults from four families displaced by the fire.

1/23/2008 - American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Responds to House Fire on White Street in Belleville, IL

The American Red Cross Metro East Service Center dispatched a Disaster Action Team to a house fire in the 600-block of White Street in Belleville, IL on Wednesday. Red Cross volunteers provided assistance on the scene and caseworkers are supporting the recovery effort of seven people displaced by the fire.
