Red Cross Volunteers and Community Partners to be Honored in St. Charles County
The St. Charles County Service Center of the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will sponsor its annual Volunteer Luncheon on Friday, February 23 at 11:30 a.m. to honor local volunteers and community partners for their service to the organization and community. Louis T. Maull IV, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the St. Louis Area Chapter, will emcee the event. Vivian Luce, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors and David A. Chumley, CEO of the Missouri-Illinois Blood Services Region, will provide the keynote address. Heather Honeycutt, Chair of Volunteers, will introduce award recipients while Joanne Buttice, Director of Volunteer Resources, will present individuals with their awards. |

American Red Cross Introduces New Lifeguarding Program
In time for the busy spring and summer aquatics season, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter has launched a newly revised lifeguarding program in conjunction with Red Cross chapters nationwide. The revised training is designed to help aquatic facilities develop and implement a comprehensive program to best meet their unique needs. All courses reflect the latest science in first aid, CPR and emergency cardiovascular care, as well as the latest developments in water safety protocols and rescue skills. |

American Red Cross to Host African-American History Celebration with Congressman William Lacy Clay as Special Guest
In honor of February as Black History Month, the American Red Cross will host an African-American History Celebration featuring Congressman William Lacy Clay as special guest with performances by Harris-Stowe State University Concert Chorale Choir. During the event, Congressman Clay will highlight Red Cross community outreach in the African-American community, focusing specifically on the Charles Drew Community Blood Donation Campaign and Red Cross emergency services provided in the wake of the July, 2006 wind storm and the December, 2006 winter storm. |

American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter Celebrates 90 Years of Service to the Metropolitan Area
The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter received its charter in January, 1917 and is celebrating 90 years of dedicated service to the metropolitan area. Since the Chapter was founded, St. Louisans have turned to the local Red Cross in times of urgent need. The Red Cross is woven into the tapestry of St. Louis history, providing disaster assistance while saving countless lives through health and safety training. |

During a ceremony in Creve Coeur today, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented Lifesaver Awards to residents from the St. Louis metropolitan area. A variety of citizens from all walks of life received honors during the event for preparing themselves through training and then reaching out to save a life. Lifesavers range from firefighters, paramedics, an off-duty emergency room physician and teenage bystanders to a lifeguard supervisor, AAA sales agents, a Red Cross volunteer and a Girl Scout. |

American Red Cross Opens 24-Hour Emergency Shelter in St. Charles County Following Severe Ice Storm
At 6 p.m. Sunday, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter opened a 24-hour emergency shelter at Harvester Christian Church in St. Charles, MO to provide safe refuge in the wake of a severe ice storm and the resulting power outages. At this facility, the Red Cross will provide assistance for emergency needs that includes shelter and food. As the Red Cross continues its assessment in partnership with emergency management officials, additional shelters will be opened if the need arises. |

As winter storm watches and warnings are issued throughout the region, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter encourages the public to prepare for extreme conditions. The Red Cross stands ready to provide emergency assistance as needed. Red Cross volunteers are on standby and pre-positioned supplies are ready, including cots, blankets, and food. A winter storm can last for several days and can be accompanied by high winds, freezing rain or sleet, heavy snowfall, and cold temperatures. People should prepare for the unexpected, knowing that severe weather can trap them at home, without utilities or other services. |

Boeing Employees Community Fund Awards $5,000 Grant for American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services
