 St. Louis, Tuesday, June 24, 2008 (11:30 a.m.) – After the levee breach in St. Charles early this morning, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter has reopened the shelter at First United Methodist Church. Both the St. Charles shelter and the shelter at Winfield High School will remain open for as long as needed. Anyone needing Red Cross assistance can call 314.516.2700.

While providing shelter services as needed and continuing to support emergency responders with food, water, sunscreen and more, Red Cross has entered its next phase of operations involving damage assessments. Teams of trained disaster relief volunteers are now assessing damages to homes in affected communities.
