Karen Wamble's Passion for the Red Cross Inspires Her Family and Friends

From her years of service, Karen Wamble understands the importance of preparedness. Her days are filled with helping families recover from home fires, teaching Pet First Aid, and assisting with day-to-day operations at the St. Charles County Service Center.
And when disasters like power outages and flooding affect her neighbors, Karen calls Chapter Headquarters to see how she can help. Oftentimes, Karen will deliver meals to local Red Cross shelters, providing much needed nourishment to those affected.
“Karen’s genuine compassion for all people makes a profound impact on many services the Red Cross provides to our community,” said Brad Farber, supervisor of the St. Charles County Service Center.
When she’s not at the Service Center or Chapter Headquarters, Karen can often be found scouring the Internet for Red Cross memorabilia. In less than a year, she has amassed a collection of more than 1,000 items which include pins, books, certificates, posters, handwritten postcards, hats, patches and much more.
The history surrounding the memorabilia inspires her passion for collecting and for volunteering. Karen commented, “I’ll always be interested in Red Cross history for the same reason I volunteer – I believe in the mission.”
Karen’s dedication and commitment to the Red Cross has inspired her family members to get involved, both in her collecting memorabilia and volunteering. “My husband helps me find things now. And my grandson is my little Red Crosser. He helps me organize my pins.”
