For school-age children the following programs are offered free of charge for schools, day care centers, and scout troops:
Grades K through 2:
Be Ready 1-2-3 (30 minutes each)
- Cool Cat teaches children how to be safe if there is a fire in the home.
- Ready Rabbit teaches how to stay warm during a winter storm and what supplies are needed during the season.
- Disaster Dog teaches how to be safe during an earthquake and where to go when an earthquake occurs.
- Twister Turtle explains what a tornado is and how to be safe during severe weather.
Grades 3 and 4:
- Disaster Dudes (45 Minutes) - Through interactive group activities, students learn general disaster preparedness, how to make a family disaster plan and what to do in a variety of disaster situations
- Smoke Detectives (45 Minutes) - The Smoke Detectives teach Count Floyd about fire safety.
- Earthquake! Do Something! (30 Minutes) - Students learn what to do before, during and after an earthquake.
- Tornado Bingo (45 Minutes) - Students learn the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning and how to stay safe.
Grades 5 through 8:
- Disaster Strikes! - Students put themselves in mock disaster situations and discuss the best ways to respond. Programs can cover a specific disaster such as a fire or can be general, covering many disasters.
Grades 5 through 12:
- Family Disaster Planning - Students learn the importance of having a family disaster plan.
- Family Disaster Supply Kit - Students learn the importance of having a family disaster kit and are taught how to make one.
Grades 9 through 12:
- Tornado Preparedness - Through group discussion, students learn the steps they can take to prepare themselves and their families for a tornado.
- Earthquake Preparedness - Through group discussion, students learn the steps they can take to prepare themselves and their families for an earthquake.
